This Season's Trend: How to Wear Distressed Denim

By: Nicole Ruccolo -

Distressed jeans are this season's trend.  Whether slightly distressed or practically destroyed, denim has gotten a spring makeover.  Styling around this trend doesn't have to be complicated.   Many of my clients initially steered clear from the rips and tears because it looked messy or not "age appropriate."   I want to show you how you can wear this look whether it be for your next night out, errands or weekend out with friends.

IMG_4860.JPGI threw this look together with items I already had in my closet.   I found a pair of jeans with only slight distressing and tears in the knee.  I threw on an oversized white tee and tucked the in the front only.  I threw on a black blazer from J. Crew and rolled up the sleeves.  A studded belt and statement necklace from Kate Spade adds some personality.  The jeans are from Banana Republic, found  here.

This darker washed pair from AG at Bloomingdales, found here, can be worn with a basic tee and lightweight jacket.  The first rule of thumb is to wear those soft comfy tees, we usually throw on after work.  Stay away from tops that are too busy with print or have extra material.  That's why I love this trend,  because all you need is the jeans and the rest are items you already own! Want to go bold?  This pair from One teaspoon, found here, feels rebellious.  You will see celebrities like Heidi Klum and Jenna Dewan Tatum wearing jeans this destroyed.  Again, go with a simple tee.  I chose a structured blazer in order to tame the look.  Put on your pumps and silver jewelry and your ready for a night out with friends. Torn denim can be romantic as well.  I was inspired by muted colors and turquoise jewelry.  These jeans from Mother are so comfortable.  The brand has a higher rise which makes them not only stylish but functional for everyday errands.   Use a mini bag instead of one that is big and bulky, to give this distressed look a feminine touch.
