2015 VMA Red Carpet to Your Closet

By Nicole Ruccolo:

The VMA red carpet was littered with jaw dropping styles, that our favorite celebs so effortlessly posed in for the paparazzi.  Makes me wonder how long do they need to practice all those poses and deep stares into a camera lens.  The fashion was so fresh that I looked for styles that kept popping up and translate them to items we can totally use in our own closets.

Have you heard of "I Love Me" gifts?

By Nicole Ruccolo -

As a stylist, I have worked with dozens of women.   Every meeting I would ask "How are you?" and the first response is simply, "busy."  It didn't matter if they were full time employees, company owners, full time moms or often times a combination of two. When I put the handpicked outfits into their fitting rooms I would always make sure not to overwhelm them with too much product but always had a secret bar of items that would be my little surprise.  I always made sure I added an "I love me" gift or two into the mix.   It is a gift to herself, for her to really look forward to wear or have something that wasn't on her list of necessities she had to buy.  Here are few of my favorite "I Love Me" gifts.

1. Feel good PJs, $98

2. Humorous Tee, $55

3. Mini Facial Kits that don't break the bank, $20

4. The easy but stylish slip on sneaker, $195

5. A conversation starter cuff, $32

6.  Not your ordinary cross body, $175

Wearable Tech in High Fashion

As many may know, wearable tech and health conscious fitness has been a big topic of discussion lately.  Wearable tech is currently trending as the must have item at the moment.  Though there are many designs and styles out there, a truly fashionable one can be hard to come by.  This fact also was the main reason why I had yet to write anything on wearable tech; however that ends today.

While working on a group project for wearable tech, one of my classmates (Nicole from StyleBar) found a great product by Tory Burch which had partnered with/designed a wrist band for the FitBit Flex.  It’s surprisingly well designed and comes in a range of colors from rose gold/gold/silver.  The one catch to this great design however is it is merely a housing band for the true FitBit Flex piece which you will have to buy separately.  The total ensemble will run you roughly $300.

Tory Burch For FitBit Metal Hinged Bracelet ($195)

If you are looking for something a little less expensive Tory Burch also offers other Silicone printed bracelets for only $38.

Fringe is just right for those who are fun-loving and who want to stay ahead of the fashion curve. Fringe is a detail and finishing touch. We can dress boho-chic yet still look polished. Navy Maxi

By Waistedd-
As of late I’ve been so into Free People- I love their brand and how it has such a carefree spirit. I found this maxi on gilt and I’m so glad I decided to purchase it. It has been perfect for spring and will transition great into Summer. My favorite part of this dress is absolutely and obviously the back- I love the openess and simplicity. The layers at the bottom of the dress create such an incredible shape for my shorter frame. My only complaint is that if you are a little bit busty, this type of top can be trouble some- I didn’t find it to be an issue but if you do, it is easy enough to layer with a fun lacy bralette (check out Victoria’s Secret).

Do you ever shop on flash sale websites such as Gilt.com or Hautelook.com? Lauren and I both really like them- I’ve found such amazing products for nearly half the price and it’s fantastic.

Have you tried these workouts?

By Nicole Ruccolo

The summer is literally upon us, and it's never too late to break a sweat, tone up, or slim down!  Its time to get out and try activities that take the zzzzzzz's out of working out.  I review five fun and adventurous workouts that will get our muscles moving!

Spin it off - Soulcycle, first class is $20

Soulcycle is not just your typical in-door cycling class.  It is a blend of choreography, hand weights and cardio bundled in a 45 minute minute class.  Soulcycle provides first time riders with their "click in" shoes which are safer and better for your workout. With your favorite tunes playing and an energetic class of dedicated spin-istas the class will leave your body feeling oh so good.

Pull out your inner gymnast and try an adult class at a gymnastics gym.  The classes are mixed with those who are new to the sport and those who used to do it in their college days, so overall a nice mix of skills.  The coaches will work you out just like the gymnasts do with conditioning, drills and a chance to use equipment during "open gym" time.  You don't have to be a pro, you literally can walk in and with never doing a somersault in your life and you will get a killer workout.  Warning.... walking will be hard the next day!

Spring Dresses for Every Body Type

By: Nicole Ruccolo -

Spring is just 8 days away and the warm weather in California is giving me the itch to look at lightweight dresses.  If you live in the East Coast, I know your already thinking of summer!  I totally lived through those icy cold winters and used the time to plan my summer vacation.   Today, we are itching to remove some winter layers and feel the sun on our skin (with spf of course!).   I not only mean clothing layers but we also start to think about our bodies more since winter is great for hibernation and adding some healthy pounds.

I figure this would be a good time to check what we are working with and tell you what details you should look for when your looking for the perfect Spring/Summer dress!

Step one: Get yourself in front of a mirror and see if you fit into one of these body shape types.

Pear - have broader bottoms compared to the top

Apple - apple shaped people would be heavy at the waist

Ruler - ruler shaped people would have hardly any curves

Hourglass - hourglass is the perfect one where the top and bottom are in perfect sync with slim waist line

Cone - heavier at the top compared to the bottoms

Here is a great visual!

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 5.12.28 PM

Step 2: Let's go Shopping - dress details to look for:

Apple: Women who are apple shaped should look for dresses that create a waste line.  This includes dresses that are gathered, have an elastic waist line, or patterns that narrow the your middle area.   Apple figures usually have great legs so look for skirts and dresses that really show off your assets.   Dresses with full bottoms will make you appear like you have that hour glass figure.

Screen Shot 2015-03-12 at 2.35.47 PM

Hourglass: If your body type is hourglass you want to highlight that tiny waist.  Stick to items that are fitted in the waist area, look for dresses that are wraps, have belts, or patterned where it makes your waist pop.  Absolutely, and I mean absolutely stay away from loose tees and empire waste tops unless you want people to assume your are 9 months along.   Try to find v-neck lines versus crew neck.   Otherwise you will look too boxy or worse case scenario have a "uni-boob" situation.

Screen Shot 2015-03-12 at 2.53.48 PM

Pear: Oh pear, how you frustrate me when trying to slip into a bandage dress.    Actually the most common body type for women is the pear.   One thing you want to do is elongate your figure so that you look less bottom-heavy.  You will want to try  to balance your hips and your shoulders while showing off your curves. The key here is to accentuate your top half.  Look for dresses that are darker or have a solid on the bottom half. Dresses that are asymmetrical on the top are also very flattering.

Screen Shot 2015-03-12 at 10.17.42 AM

Cone: It's the most athletic-looking silhouette  and can be seen on many catwalk models.  Dresses that have a fuller bottom will help balance your proportion. Peplum dresses look beautiful on this body type.   Stay away from dresses that are structured on top.  Since your shoulders appear larger than your waist go for soft fabrics that drape lightly.

Screen Shot 2015-03-12 at 3.05.28 PM

Ruler: Soft flowing dresses that create movement and shape are great or try a asymmetrical cut.  Dresses should be fitted at the waist and gives you a curvy silhouette.  High necked dresses will give you the appearance of a larger bust and attain that curvy body you want.  Show-off those amazing shoulders by wearing sleeveless or halter cuts. Try to stay away from strapless as they may make you appear flat chested.

Picnic Essentials

By Neeti Tulsyan-

The warm weather is here in Northern California! Yesterday I was out lazy-ing around in the park. The sun simply sets the mood for a day out! While I was basking in the sun, I did a little people watching.  It was fun seeing people pull out their “almost summer” attire on. But what caught my eye was a picnic setting that was out of this world. This gave me inspiration to incorporate fashion and of course our favorite, food. I thought, why not share with you my tips to make your picnic the most stylish one!

1. First, grab a picnic mat from Bed, Bath and Beyond. They have bright colors in geometric and flowery prints, it lays the perfect backdrop for all your instagram photos. Not to mention the mat is foldable and easy to carry.

Screen Shot 2015-02-22 at 5.42.59 PM

2. Next, spend some time on picking up some picnic attire. For ladies, a big hat, maxi dress, and sunnies will do the trick. And for gents, lightweight shorts and cotton tees are easy to find. You want to not only be comfortable but also look good while you bask in that sun. (pssst…don’t forget sunscreen). I picked a few for you to browse.

3. Finally don’t forget, your picnic basket. I found this one on Amazon. Believe me, if it’s a date you are on, you just wooed your beloved! Wine, cheese and sun, aah!! They come in all shapes an sizes and perfect for the park or afternoon at the beach.

2015 Milan Fashion Week: Looks for James Bond, Mad Max and more!

By Lauren Peetz-

Milan’s Fashion week has brought such a variety of styles it is hard to pick which ones are my favorite. Instead of choosing, I instead have decided to pick which ones I would want to see in this year’s upcoming movies. I made my choices but what do you think?

Designer: Fausto Puglisi, Movie: Blade Runner. I am so excited for the Blade Runner sequel supposedly to be filmed soon! And you can do so much with futuristic fantasy.

Designer: Luisa Beccari, Movie: James Bond: Spectre. Wouldn’t Monica Belluci (newest bond girl) rock the hell out of these

Designer: Ter Et Bantine, Movie: Mad Max: Fury Road. Okay these looks need a little more leather and spikes but you got a good start.

Designer: Dolce & Gabanna, Movie: Mortdecai. This seems appropriate for Johnny Depp as a quirky inspector but then again what can’t Johnny Depp pull off?

Must-have Mini Bags

By Shouya Zhou -

Mini bags have ridden fashion waves in the handbag world for a while. Almost every designer brand has their own mini bag collection. I personally love them. They are cute, easy, and most importantly, they give our arms and shoulders a break from those heavy winter bags. They are fashionable and diversified—funky colors, fun textures, and unexpected shapes—there is a special one for each and everyone of us! Compared to the heavy, massive and oversized bags, I believe the mini bag trend will keep going strong.

Spring comes, can summer be far behind? A mini bag will light both your spring and summer, fill it with colors and excitement. I have put together some of the collections from different designers for you to have a look!

So many girls would say “All I want for Valentines is a Chanel Mini Classic Flap!” This mini collection has three different size: the new mini ( a bigger one), mini (the square one) and extra mini. I prefer the new mini that is the prefect size for me.  RP: $2,900

Lady Dior Mini inherits the elegance from Lady Dior, but more vivid and younger than mid and large sized Lady Dior.

Micro Peekaboo is Fendi’s 2015 new collection. Words can not express how cute and adorable it is. RP: $3,100

Chloe Mini Clare has many different color blockings and is my favorite. I am the girl who loves colorful things. RP:$1,550

If those luxury brands are too pricy for you, lets check out some price friendly ones. Furla Julia Mini Cross body bag has the luxury texture with only $298. I am not a “Pinky” girl, but that pink one is so nice, isn’t it?

The Rebecca Minkoff Mini Mab is my recent purchase. I bought this bag without any hesitation when I saw it. The original price is $195, I got a light blue one only for $130 when on a sales promotion.

Michael Kors Selma mini messenger has been popular for a while. I think Selma is one of the best collections of Michael Kors. The mini bags are elegant but also cute. RP: $178

Have a mini bag you would like to show us? Send us a picture in the comment box below or on our Facebook page.
